TPC leaders from around the world worked with the Australian National University, National Computational Infrastructure team—who organized Supercomputing Asia (SCA’24)—to bring collaborators together around a TPC program that featured a full-day tutorial, a half-day hackathon, and three parallel meetups in Sydney, Australia.
Of the nearly 1,300 SCA’24 participants, over 100 participated in the full day TPC Tutorial on 19-February (group photo below). The tutorial covered the use of Large Language Models (LLMs) and other AI technologies for scientific applications, including hands-on sections on prompt engineering and fine-tuning AI models. Thanks to Arvind Ramanathan (Argonne), Prasanna Balaprakash (ORNL), and Ian Foster (Argonne/UChicago) for developing and delivering an excellent curriculum.
On 20-February TPC hosted a morning hackathon for tutorial participants wanting to go deeper with more hands-on instruction. The hackathon was organized by Neeraj Kumar (PNNL), Arvind Ramanathan (Argonne), Andrew McNaughton (PNNL), and Venkat Vishwanath (Argonne).
On the morning of 21-February Rick Stevens (Argonne) gave the SCA’24 opening keynote. Additionally, three parallel meetups were held, each with both local and remote speakers. Neeraj Kumar (PNNL), Ian Foster (Argonne/UChicago), and Kyle Lo (AI2) led a meetup on Data and Model Training. Rio Yokota (TiTech) and Jens Domke (RIKEN) organized a meetup on Model Architecture and Performance. Mohamed Wahib (RIKEN) and Ravi Madduri (Argonne) coordinated a meetup on Federated Learning and Model Evaluation.
On the afternoon of 21-February over 100 people joined the TPC BOF, where Rick Stevens provided more in depth examples of innovative use of generative AI in science, meetup leaders summarized the parallel sessions, followed by an open discussion period.
